Autumn 2004

Begitu - Such is Life!

As I begin to write, I am waiting along with several others for a person and a car to be free to take us to the wharf. Waiting is a part of life here in Kiunga, West Papua. We are heading to a place called Kaikok, one of the refugee camps along the middle region of the Fly River. Rain is falling steadily. Lately it has been raining constantly from 3am to 10am. When the rain stops the sun comes out, quickly absorbing the water back into the atmosphere, where it builds up to a peak only to be dumped again the next morning...
