Typhoon Relief for the Philippines
Emergency Relief Appeal:
Help Families in the Phillipines Rebuild After Devastating Typhoons
In the areas where we work in the Philippines, communities were devastated by Typhoon Kalmaegi (Tino) and Typhoon Fung-Wong (Uwan) in early November. It was only last year that many of these same areas were hit by Typhoons Trami (Kristine) and Man-Yi (Pepito).
Together, we rebuilt the homes of 41 families (258 individuals), and we are happy to report that these homes withstood the latest storms. The use of half-cement construction played a key role in protecting these families. Your support truly makes a difference.
However, the need remains great. Families involved in our livelihood programs have suffered major losses—not only to their homes but also to their primary sources of income. We invite you to join us to bring safety, hope, and dignity to these communities. Your gift today will provide emergency food, water and essential kits, temporary shelter, and housing repair kits for families whose homes were damaged.
What Your Donation Will Do
Your kindness will bring hope and relief to families devastated by the recent typhoon in the Philippines. Together, we can help restore dignity and safety for those who need it most.
Here’s how your support will make a difference:
Provide Urgent Relief
Many families have lost their homes and livelihoods. Your donation will supply food packs with rice, ready-to-eat meals, canned goods, and safe drinking water, as well as hygiene kits, medical supplies, sleeping mats, blankets and utensils.
Rebuild Homes and Lives
Some families remain in evacuation centres or crowded with relatives because their homes were destroyed. Your support puts the tools for recovery directly into families’ hands. By providing essential materials and equipment, you help families repair roofs and walls and rebuild their homes with stronger construction materials, restoring safety, dignity and hope.
Stories of Hope and Hardship

Melissa’s Struggle to Rebuild
Melissa Robis, a mother from Panay Island, lost her home when the typhoon struck. Today, her family is crowded into her parents’ house, relying on the kindness of relatives. Her husband, despite being unwell, works tirelessly to provide for their children.
“It’s hard to depend on others. My husband feels embarrassed that we are only staying at my mother’s home. We hope we can rebuild our house, but on our own, it would be very difficult.”

Maria Theresa’s Fight for Her Children
Maria Theresa Steban, a mother of three, saw her home and livelihood swept away by the storm.
“We lost everything—our home and our fishing nets. We are staying with my parents now, but it’s hard. My children are still studying, and we need a house so we can begin again. Without help, it’s very difficult to earn a living.”

Judy’s Message of Gratitude
Judy Cadosale was one of the 41 families supported during last year’s typhoon appeal. Thanks to donors, her home was rebuilt using stronger materials—and it withstood the recent storms.
“We are grateful that our house was not damaged, even though we lost belongings. Life is already difficult for us, but we felt secure during the storm. Your help last year gave us peace of mind and safety.”
Why Act Now
Every day without help means more suffering. Families are living in makeshift shelters, exposed to the elements, and at risk of hunger and disease. Your support can make the difference between despair and recovery.

This emergency relief project, “Rebuilding Lives for November 2025 Storm-Affected Families,” supports communities in Catanduanes and Cebu in partnership with the St. Mary Euphrasia Integrated Development Foundation, Inc. It will assist families in pre-existing project locations for Healing and Empowerment of Women and Children (HEWC) and PROTECT (in Cebu), creating conditions for these programs to resume. We aim to raise Php 1,900,000 (approximately AUD $50,000). Any funds raised beyond this amount will support HEWC and PROTECT projects and then the projects of Mercy Works with the greatest needs.
