Kath Cooney

As our Mercy Connect Victoria Coordinator, Kath recruits and assists volunteer mentors who guide students of refugee backgrounds in schools and libraries across Victoria. In fact, it was Mercy Work’s focus on supporting refugees and asylum seekers in Australia that first attracted Kath to join the Mercy Works team in August 2023. Kath’s career began as a Mathematics teacher before her commitment to social justice lead her towards a long career as a Social Worker, supporting children, young people, families and communities. Kath is passionate about volunteering. She is an active volunteer with Australian Red Cross Emergency Services, supporting communities that have been impacted by disasters. Kath loves her coffee and is always available to go out for coffee with friends, colleagues and her large family.
