Racial Justice Statement

At Mercy Works, we affirm the inherent dignity of every human person, created in the image and likeness of God. Our mission is founded in the principles of compassion, justice, and solidarity, and we stand firmly against all forms of racism, discrimination, and exclusion.

We recognise that racism is not only a personal prejudice but a systemic injustice that intersects with other forms of oppression, including gender inequality, ageism, ableism and socio-economic marginalisation. These interconnected injustices compound the barriers faced by individuals and communities and demand a holistic and courageous response.

We are committed to fostering a culture of equity, respect and tolerance, where the voices and lived experiences of those impacted by racism are heard, valued and actively supported. We believe that true inclusion means more than representation—it means creating spaces where everyone belongs, thrives and leads.

As an organisation, we pledge to:

  • Call out racism wherever it exists—within our communities, systems and ourselves
  • Promote systemic change through education, advocacy and action
  • Ensure our programs and partnerships reflect our commitment to human rights and racial equity
  • Stand in solidarity with First Nations peoples, people from refugee backgrounds and all communities facing racial injustice
  • Build structures that enable full participation and leadership of people from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds
  • Continuously examine and improve our own practices to uphold justice and dignity for all

We believe that racial justice is spiritual, social and structural work. It is a sacred responsibility that calls us to act with courage, humility and hope. Together, we strive to build a world where every person is seen, heard and celebrated—where mercy works for justice.
